The cornerstone of the Outward Bound educational philosophy is that challenges can only be met with sufficient support. When Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School was chartered In 1986, our founders were committed to the idea that every student should be able to experience Outward Bound. This commitment stays with us today, and we’re proud to say that we award roughly $950,000 annually to thousands of students in the form of financial aid and scholarships to participate; many of whom would not be able to participate without our support.

Financial Assistance for Public / Charter Schools

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) supports our mission to bring students into the wilderness to learn essential leadership skills that round out their educational experience. As such, we are able to significantly subsidize the tuition for Maryland public schools to bring their students for a meaningful, character building expedition and utilize our MDCCRS-approved Character Curriculum. Through other donor contributions we are able to extend financial assistance to schools across the Chesapeake region, including Washington DC for our five-day wilderness expeditions.

Scholarship Opportunity for Individuals

We are proud to award a limited number of partial tuition scholarship awards to deserving students who demonstrate both financial need and a commitment to one of our summer Classic Expeditions on a first-come, first-served basis.  These 8-day or 12-day courses, a rite of passage for many, are unique experiences for youth to overcome challenges, develop leadership skills, and experience the outdoors in a way that will have a lasting impact on their lives. We are honored to make the dream of an Outward Bound course a reality for worthy youth each summer.
